Iron Mountain.SHOW ARTICLE -- IRON MOUNTAIN – The Erickson-Rochon & Nash Funeral Home and Tondin-Ross & Freeman Funeral Home have consolidated to one location at 901 Carpenter Ave., Iron Mountain.Dickinson County’s two oldest funeral homes joined operation 12 years ago when Thomas Nash purchased the Tondin-Ross & Freeman Funeral Home from Tammy Barrows. Tondin-Ross & Freeman continued to operate as its own entity in its original location with Tammy Barrows remaining on staff as manager and funeral director.This relationship has been well received, Nash said, contributing to the decision to combine the two facilities.“These two funeral establishments are historic institutions in our community, dating back to the turn of the century,” he said. “Consolidating the facilities into one allows us to better serve the community with our staff and resources. It also allows us to keep costs down and maintain the highest quality of service to the families we serve.”Individuals who have preplanned and prepaid funeral arrangements through Tondin-Ross & Freeman Funeral Home were notified of the change of ownership at the time of the sale and will also be notified of the consolidation to Erickson-Rochon & Nash Funeral Home and Cremation Services.Erickson-Rochon & Nash Funeral Home and Cremation Services has six full-time funeral directors licensed in Michigan and Wisconsin.“Just as we have been doing since our merger, area families can be confident that their funeral prearrangements will be honored by the Erickson-Rochon & Nash Funeral Home and Cremation Services,” Nash noted. “We take great pride in the legacy that began over 100 years ago serving local families.”Nash had been in negotiations with the Dickinson County Road Commission to purchase the Tondin Ross & Freeman property at the corner of Carpenter Avenue and H Street in Iron Mountain, and that sale was recently completed.According to Jim Harris, superintendent of operations, the road commission decided to take advantage of the opportunity to purchase th... State bocce powerhouse back for City Park tourney

The 19th annual state tournament will be held Saturday in Iron Mountain. (Burt Angeli/The Daily News)SHOW ARTICLE -- IRON MOUNTAIN — Mike Grasser and his DaVinci Bocce Club team from Sylvan Lake won Michigan State Open bocce titles at City Park in 2013 and 2015.They will gun for a third state crown Saturday against local competition.“DaVinci bocce team consists of past state and national champions,” said John Gaudette, one of the tournament coordinators. “They would be the odds on favorites.”Grasser will be joined by Pierino Guglielmitto and Sal Lini for this year’s state tournament. Quirino Mastroiami played with Grasser for the 2013 and 2015 tournaments.Bimbo’s Wine Press of Iron Mountain placed second in the other two state tournaments held at the Ray Mariucci Bocce Complex.The 19th annual Saturday, hosted by the Dickinson Area Bocce Association, features 10 teams with two brackets. Round robin play begins at 9 a.m., with Tom Gursky singing the national anthem. Top three teams from each bracket advance into the medal round where over $1,200 in prizes will be at stake. The remaining four teams will play in the consolation bracket for $100.The “A” bracket includes DABA One, Erickson Rochon & Nash Funeral Homes, Best Shot Billiards, Threads and Bimbo’s. The “B” bracket has Woodlands Motel, DABA Two, DaVinci Bocce, CCI and B& B Tire & Auto.Steve and Chris Cavalieri, members of the 2015 state runner-up, will be joined by Lucas Cavalieri for this year’s tournament.
